My D is accepted to MSM in Classical Voice/Soprano!
Congrats!! Big day!!
Congrats!!!
Congratulations
Same with my D. Now some hard choices. Especially since she prefers Musical Theater over VP, but her VP choices are better, maybe?
Hi! Does anyone know how difficult it is to be accepted as a music major at St. Olaf? My son was accepted as a Buntrock scholar. He is very strong academically and is doing all of his senior year classes at a local university. He got a 5 on both parts of the AP Music Theory exam and was advanced to Music Theory 3. He is interested in studying music theory, music history, or musicology. He is a good clarinet playet, but has only taken private lessons for a year. Will the audition to be a music major kill him? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Is he interested in the BA with focus on theory or musicology? The site says the BA is selective but not at the level of the BM.
I honestly do not understand why so many schools require composers or students interested in theory, music history, or musicology, to audition on an instrument. Is it to fill out ensembles/orchestra on campus?
I think that the BA with the focus on theory or musicology would be his first choice. I just looked at the site, too, and I gather there isn’t an audition? It sounds like he would just need to be approved. I know nothing about music, so it’s been hard for me to figure this all out!
I wonder how hard it is to get accepted to the various ensembles/orchestras? He truly just loves to play. I hope he will be able to do that.
And I agree!!! There is so much emphasis on the auditions! My son is extremely knowledgeable about theory and history and can name almost any piece, composer, and orchestra when he is listening to the radio. He’s just not a virtuoso when it comes to playing. I hope that doesn’t hurt him.
PM’ed you
