I have a question regarding is it worth my money and time to take a SAT class such as Kaplan or something else? Or should I just sit down and read a prep book?

-Thanks

Prep courses provide motivation. If you can motivate yourself to do the work, then a course is not necessary. Just make sure that you learn all the SAT specific strategies, and practice problems 20 to 30 minutes per day for at least 3 months. You should also do about 4 practice tests under timed conditions

If you do decide to enroll in a course I would recommend finding a smaller local group as opposed to one of the big name companies. Try to find out what courses others in your area have taken and how effective they have found them.

In my opinion, and in my high school’s college counselors opinion, NEITHER of these will help. The only true help is taking practice tests, under timed conditions, and then going over every problem on each practice test and understanding why you got certain ones wrong. You can often get these practice tests from counselors, I got a couple of the official 2007 and 2008 ACT tests to practice on from my counselor. If they don’t have them, then buy a prep book with a decent number of tests in the back. I highly recommend not taking a course, it is a waste of money. All I did to prepare for my ACT was take practice tests and review them and my score went from a 32 to a 34.

CLASSROOM!

TAKE BOTH tests! Take them each 3 times. no max.

Please, Study hard for SATs and ACT, write good essays during the application process!
SATs and ACT score is very, very important extremely important for admission!

I did Princeton review classroom course, improved my score by 200 +, but also i would HIGHLY RECCOMAND TAKING SAT CLASSES ESP FROM KAPLAN, OR PRINCETON REVIEW.
