Class rank questions

Some scholarships I apply for only have choices for your class rank such as top 10%, top 25%, etc. I am in about the top 12 or 13% of my class. Should I select top 10% since that's closer to my actual percentage or top 25% since that one actually includes me?

Has your school given you your rank? Is it set by a certain date or can it change at the end of first semester?

When do you have to submit a transcript?

At my sons’ school, they don’t rank, but they do decide the Val during the last quarter of senior year…so rank can change throughout senior year…especially when some top students let senioritis get the best of them.

My most recent transcript covers up to the end of my junior year. I know my specific rank, but some scholarship apps only have like a checkbox for 10%, 25%, 50%, or below 50%.

I won’t get an updated rank until the end of first semester (middle of January), and I’ve been applying for some scholarships that are due before then.

You check the group you are in, so top 25%.

They are asking for the group you are in. So if you are in the top 12-13% then you are not in the top 10% (which would include top 1-10%) but are in the top 25% (which includes top 1-25%).

The above info is true…

However, if some of the scholarship deadlines aren’t until 2011, then the student should wait to see if his/her rank changes.

I know from my younger son’s experience, he ended up the Sal because a couple kids who were ahead of him let senioritis hurt their GPA’s senior year.

Ok thanks everyone. I think for scholarships that aren’t due until February or later, I’ll hold off for now and see if I make it into the top 10% (I hope so!) and everything before then I’ll mark top 20%/25%.
