Class Rank?

Is it true that Harvard doesn't consider class rank? Both on the CDS and on College Board it isn't listed as a factor for admission. I'm not worried about my rank or anything, but I always assumed Harvard would take it into consideration.

Colleges will use class rank if it provided but there is no disadvantage if the school does not rank. In fact, over half of high schools in the US do not rank students.

The following is a sentence cut from an article in “The Crimson: My First Year 2009”.

If the statistic quoted is accurate and and assumption by the author, then if HArvard does not consider rank the 69% would be a very bizarre coincidence.

Also, I am wondering if the parameters as defined in the CDC have changed because I would swear I remember reading rank to be important when I would have been examining the CDC last year and the year before.

Here is the link to three data sets:
[The Office of the Provost | Common Data Set](http://www.provost.harvard.edu/institutional_research/common_data_set.php)

They are indeed very different from each other. Most strikingly is the change from 2007-2008 where rank is second most important to 2008-2009 where rank is “not considered”.

IDK if that reflects changes in Harvard admissions or changes in who the person was that filled out the CDS forms.

Good Luck.

Yeah…is this true you guys?

As long as you’re in the top 5% it won’t really hurt you. The reason that 69% are valedictorians is just because the kind of person who would do well on the SAT and be a good college applicant is the same kind of a person who would be rank 1.

haha in the 2008-2009 common data set, the fact that harvard doesn’t check “very important” or “important” for any aspect of the application attests to its nonchalance.
In other words, we’re the ****, and we don’t care. just send us what you got and don’t bother with it. we decide according to our standards

i love those *****es in boston

class rank= not considered =]
