Hi,
I am beginning to plan for what classes I am going to take in my final year of high school, here’s what I am thinking
*I would like to major in something technology related in college
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Psychology or AP Stats
English 12 Honors or AP Lit and comp
Honors Calculus or AP Calculus AB
AP Computer Science A
Mechanical Engineering Honors
Robotics Honors 2
DLT
Gym
How negatively would taking honors calc instead of AP affect me especially since I am planning on taking AP Physics C? (I am planning to self-study for the AP AB exam)
Is AP lit worth taking if I am not particularly interested in English?
I am curious about learning about the field of psychology but feel as although stats is more relevant to what I will study in college, which of the two would be better for me to take? Would taking both and getting rid of one of my science electives or DLT be too much of a workload for senior year?
Stats in college for a technology major will be calculus-based. AP stats is thus useless to you.
Take Calculus ab. You’ll need a good background in calculus to survive your first year as a tech major (2/3 don’t so you need everything on your side).
Are you getting a high A in AP physics1 right now? If not, physics C concurrent with calc AB will be difficult (it’s easier to have some understanding of calc before taking Physics C in addition to a good background in physics).
You can take English Honors.
You need to take a social science/history class - could be AP psych but it could be n honors class it DOES NOT have to be an AP.
Have you reached level 3 in a Foreign Language?
I am currently in latin IV. As for social science/history, I have taken three years of history and my school only requires three years of social science/history which is why I was considering taking stats instead of psych. For physics I think have concepts down, but I plan to get a tutor and get a jump start on the calculus over the summer.
You’re good for foreign language then. However remember that college entrance requirements tend to be different from HS graduation requirements, so you should take a year in social science/History sincères it’s one of the core courses colleges want to see every year. It doesn’t have to be an AP.
Good plan on the calculus jumpstart and tutor.
Definitely take Calc AB if you can…colleges wont’ care you are self studying.
Take AP Psych if you are interested…only take AP stats if you think you need that for your major.
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Psychology or AP Stats
English 12 Honors or AP Lit and comp
Honors Calculus or AP Calculus AB
AP Computer Science A
Mechanical Engineering Honors
Robotics Honors 2
DLT
Gym
Seems to me that AP Phy C and AP Comp sci and Mech Eng and robotics seems like a lot…esp if you have to spend a bunch of time getting things to work. What is DLT?
AP Physics C Mechanics (IF you aren’t already taking Physics 1… otherwise I’d say prob don’t take C unless you’re really interested in it)
AP Stats (GPA booster, easy to get a 5 on the AP test… like seriously, it’s just an awesome breeze of a class)
English 12 Honors (don’t take AP! It’s going to likely consume your time and you aren’t even interested in English or planning to study it in college)
AP Calculus AB
AP Computer Science A
Mechanical Engineering Honors
Robotics Honors 2
DLT
Gym
The only one I’m kind of iffy about is my opinion on stats over psych… although as I said, stats is super super easy, i’m not sure about psych. Just go with your gut. I think the best advice I have for you is to not take AP English, otherwise just take my opinion as an honest suggestion! (:
