Classics Department at University of Michigan

I wanted to ask if there is anything at the University of Michigan that makes its Classics Department unique and sets it apart from other schools. Thank you!

I am not a classics major, however I have taken a classics class and have talked with various professors and such; I can promise that the professors are all very enthusiastic/knowledgeable about their subjects and friendly. ^^ Best of luck making the choice that’s best for you as far as colleges!

It is a phenomenal department with amazing professors. It is awesome because it is a top-ranked department that gets to interact with Michigan’s other top-ranked departments (most of Michigan is top-ranked) such as Anthropology, which is really important to the study of Classics.

Michigan’s humanities and social sciences departments are all ranked among the to 5 nationally with the exception of Economics, which is ranked among the top 15, but not among the top 5. Classics is a fairly unusual major (fewer than 100 concentrators across all four years, which means that most classes will have 15 or fewer students. Considering the quality of faculty and abundance of resources (libraries etc…), you are not going to find a better department than Michigan’s.
