My D hasn't received anything special in the mail, but on college visits she got M&M's and a carrot cake.

While on a tour during MN private college week during a very hot summer day the school had a mini freezer filled with various ice cream treats for the kids to help themselves to. It was a big hit! As were the ice cold bottles of water with the school's name and logo. Great marketing!
The kids who interviewed with admissions also got a nice string backpack.

Carleton sent a really cool admissions calendar, which includes instructions on how to make origami frogs out of college flyers, application essay mad libs, how (not) to dress for an interview, a college fair game, etc. Definitely made my son laugh - he's getting pretty jaded on college mailings.

Yah I got the carelton calendar too, its the only piece of mail out of about 309 I've gotten this year that didn't say the same thing as all the others just with a different school name...

D got a window cling from Nebraska that said "Future Husker" on it. It's not on the car. She's only in 8th grade!

Along the lines of astrophysicsmom, D got a postcard just today from a school that she's been accepted to for some time, encouraging students to send in their deposits and giving out other info. On it is a photograph of the back of a car on its way to college. On the back of the car is a very realistic looking decal of the actual name of D's HS. Along the side of the road there is a green road sign that names the University and then the number of miles to our town's name. Then there is a personalized license plate on the car with D's name and the name of the university. Tire cover is a big school insignia! She won't be going, but a very clever and well done marketing tool.

I'm glad to hear that Harvey Mudd's mailings are still funny. We found them delightful years back when my older one was looking.
Not a marketing trick, but Whitman sends new students a small crate of Walla Walla sweet onions during the summer.

It was all pretty amazing, we saved the golden ticket. Really got his attention!

i would've saved the whole thing!!

I will second the Harvey Mudd comments. I want to know who does the copy writing for their brochures, because my mom wants to steal them to work for her marketing team at work :)

Seriously, the layout is cool and th text is informative.... but hilarious! I aways look forward to mail from Mudd.

S2 got a school license plate from one of the schools he has been accepted to. He thought it was cool..Too bad he's not going there. The one he is going to didn't send a thing except a nice booklet with his acceptance letter that profiled the famous people who are alums of the school and an I.D. sized card with the school name and "admiited" stamped across it.

As a hs senior he got a nifty poster from CalTech in the mail.

During visits he got pens from Rochester and Case, a tee shirt from Wooster.

RPI gave all admittees a banner with instructions to take an amusing picture with and the winners would get some sort of prize.

a hat from Tulane
[/quote]
Yes, son got that hat, also...Tulane can stop the mail now, though, since there is no way he's going there post-Katrina. Too many concerns!

Much of the stuff he hasn't even opened (yet?).

Nothing particularly memorable.
