Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology and internships...

I'm going to college without knowing exactly what major I want, which is a little scary. I LOVE biology and health, and I'm thinking of clinical laboratory science. The school I'm looking at has several different programs that all lead to a CLS degree. One of them allows you to apply to an affiliated internship (and if you don't get it, you graduate with the CLS degree and can apply for internship again or apply elsewhere for it.) One is a cytogenetics track and the other is histology, with the same outcome (apply for internship in the field or graduate with a CLS degree and apply for internship elsewhere.)

My question is, how difficult is it to get an internship if I don't get one when I first apply? I'd be willing to apply ANYWHERE...even some place like Nowheresville, North Dakota (no offense to North Dakota :D)

I would hate to put all this work into a major and fall flat without an MT certification.

What can you do with a CLS degree if you don't do the internship and become certified? Can you work as a tech in a bio lab?
