Closeness of APUSH and AP US Gov.

How close is the material in these two courses? I’m planning on taking APUSH next year and was wondering if I only took APUSH and did a week or two of study the AP US GOV prep book, would I be able to get a 4 or 5 on the exam?

No, they definitely aren’t the same course. Though APUSH WILL help (especially when it comes to court cases and the like), the concepts covered in Gov are a lot more in-depth in terms of the functions of government. They also focus a lot more on policies near the present-day, while APUSH covers everything from the 1600s on.

However, AP Gov is a fairly easy subject to self-study (and the free responses are a breeze), so as long as you start early and know all of the flashcards (I recommend PR), you should be fine.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions. :)

For AP gov, you need to know constitution and all the amendments, supreme court cases. There’s some overlap with APUSH.

I am self studying Gov this year, after getting a 5 on APUSH last year. In my opinion, having a good knowledge of US History and current events/politics makes self studying really easy.
