I’m a freshmen in high school and just started school. In the seventh through eighth grade I was a big name throughout the town and was a student leader. It was a great stepping stone for high school, but I realized that I may not know my passion just yet. There is a club fair and I want to join 10+ clubs, does that look too much on college applications? I want to be consistent in the club topics but I don’t know my passion just yet? Should I try a bunch of clubs freshmen year or should I just join 6 important clubs?
Try them. You won’t stay with all of them.
When you apply for colleges, you’ll list the few clubs that you stuck with that are important to you. You may not have any of your original 10 on your list. Don’t worry about it. Try them, drop the ones that don’t interest you.
I would not join 10 clubs…maybe like 5 and see how they go. Next year drop to the 2-3 that interest you the most.
Freshman year is a great time to try out different clubs. As mentioned above, 10 clubs seems excessive, especially when you need to balance that with school work, athletics, job etc. You should try different clubs, and then you will know which ones you are most interested in, and stick with them all 4 years. It is even possible to try a new activity in Soph year and continue 3 years.
As a freshman it should be all about you and your interest in the clubs and not how it will look on applications. Follow your interests, passions and what sounds fun. You will naturally, over time, weed out some and your participation and leadership in some clubs will increase. IMHO try them all if you are doing it for you. If you are doing it for the applications alone don’t. You have plenty of time. Enjoy every moment
