What clubs and extra-curricular activities do colleges prefer? Like which clubs do colleges recommend?

Community service and something with leader ship

A club that you do for all 4 years of high school and get a leadership position in, a club that you start and put a lot of time into to expand, basically anything that is respectable that reflects who you are and highlights your best qualities. It varies from year to year if a college will need more cross country kids or an oboe player. Unique activities help though, maybe crew, fencing, publishing a book? If you have a skill, let’s say it’s in math, you could tutor people. You could also start a business and develop it. If you know what interests you, find a related club, and that way you’ll be able to convey genuine passion in your essay to show who you are. Good luck :)

Activities that make you a well rounded student, or more preferably, a student that has a specialization. Honestly, pursue your interests, and colleges will see the hard work you put into it. Like Skedge said, it’s cool to be able to get a leadership position in a club.

They don’t really care as long as you show dedication, accomplishment, focus, and leadership when possible in whatever you do. Nowadays colleges seem to prefer specialization (rather than well-roundedness), but there are no specific clubs that are better than others.

Community service isn’t necessary either (your ECs can involve community service, but they don’t have to). The Common App asks how many hours you spent each week on all of your ECs, but no college application I’ve ever seen asks for a number of volunteer hours.
