Im not so sure about how this works… For example, if I was majoring in mechanical engineering would I be able to take a cluster of classes in dance to fulfill my “other classes” requirement?
Mechanical engineering (Indeed all engineering majors) need to complete only 1 cluster (Instead of 2).

The cluster may be in the humanities or social sciences. Dance falls into the humanities category.
UR currently offer 4 Dance-related clusters
Here are the specific courses for each:

You would still need to fulfill writing and other department specific non-engineering requirements.
Of course you can take dance. My kid knew engineers who did.
Yes you can. My son is majoring in Mechanical Engineer and did his cluster in film. The ME curriculum is pretty set so you take the required classes each semester but usually have a spot for a single cluster course. Since engineering students only have to do one cluster, it is not difficult to meet the cluster which is usually about 3 classes.
This is the ME handbook. Go to page 4 to see the classes laid out.
