CMU Computer Science: Team Based Projects

For undergraduates majoring in Computer Science at CMU - what kinds of opportunities are there to work on team based projects? That is - might several CS students work with students from say the Bioscience/Biotech Department toward creation of a program that analyzed some aspect of genetic structure, protein folding or other? Or might this kind of project occur just within the CS group? Other opportunities for team based coding efforts? Thank you.

Sorry CollegeBargain, meant to post the above on another thread. I think the answer to your question above is yes there are many opportunities, in fact there are many interdisciplinary programs which formalize the interactions. But I’d imagine there are always opportunities to work in the manner you describe. I hope a current student or recent grad will weigh in.

Thanks Kaukana. It was a good link I hadn’t seen before but didn’t exactly answer the Q so I was a little confused. I’m in the ballpark for the scores. I’ve had a couple of team based hackathons that were just great - fun and intense. Learned a lot. I’d be disappointed if I got to a comp sci program and everything was theoretical.

CollegeBargain, don’t think CMU is just theoretical. All you have to do is go to the front page news feed at cmu.edu and look at the archived articles. There are articles galore talking about practical (an interdisciplinary) achievements of students, faculty, recent and not so recent alums. Best of luck to you.
