My DD has been accepted into CS. I understand that the program is obviously academically rigorous and time consuming, but do CS students have a chance to experience college life in a more rounded way and pursue other interests? Do the CS students interact with students from the other schools or are they more an island unto themselves? I guess I’m curious if the CMU motto “where fun goes to die” is accurate or not…
Thanks for any feedback.
I’m interested in this too. Hope to see you get some replies.
“Where fun goes to die” is UChicago but it could apply to CMU CS.
But on the other hand it’s not so bad if you are working on something you love.
They can’t stay on their own island, because (a) all CS majors must take a minor, and (b) their first few classes will also largely be taken by other students as well like meches or eces or math majors. You have fun if you actually try to. If you look for fun, it’s there. Workload is heavy, but it depends on the person. Some barely manage to pass while dedicating all their time and effort, others get 4.0s easy and spend their extra time planning parties and playing viedeo games with their frat.
