How does being a restricted or unrestricted ECE student work at CMU?

When you are admitted to CMU as a CIT student, you enter either restricted or unrestricted. Unrestricted means that you basically get first pick in ECE when it’s major declaration. Restricted means that if ECE is not full (cause people drop out), you can also declare ECE as a major. No matter if you’re restricted/unrestricted you can choose to take Intro to ECE (18-100) your first semester.

If you apply Early Decision will they still admit you as either restricted or unrestricted?
