CMU ED Age requirement

Hi. So I am applying to CMU for ED. And I just saw on their freshmen application requirements pdf that we need to be at least 17 to apply ED. I am 16 currently and will turn 17 next year March. Can I still apply there?

Where did you see this? The only place I see any reference to age is for Early Admission (which is for HS juniors seeking admission)…not ED.

Hers is the website info. Scroll down.

And of course for first hand info…call the college and ask!

My S19 was accepted when he was 16 as a senior in high school. He only turned 17 after he graduated. He did not apply ED because CMU is binding.
He did not attend because they offered him zero merit although he was the valedictorian… blah blah blah. He took a generous merit offer at Pitt.
Best of luck if this is your dream school.

Yes, please provide a link to where you read this, and be sure it’s ED and not Early Admission.

Fwiw, I turned 17 well after RD deadlines and knew several students younger than me, though policies may have changed over the years. But 16 on November 1 of Senior Year is far from rare.

It does say that here, in CMU’s application instructions on page 7:

Early Decision also isn’t available if you’re under the age of 17 or if you’re applying Early Admission as a high school junior. (note they do have an Early Admission plan for HS juniors on the same page)

Call and ask. It’s sort of unclear whether you can’t be 17 when you apply…although it sort of sounds that way!

Call admissions and ask.

Weird. Yes, call and ask. I’ve never seen it anywhere before - odd to drop it in the fine print of a big pdf for the first time.

But CMU is almost as odd as Georgetown when it comes to admissions, so who knows.

(It’s also odd that it says being deferred is rare - admit or deny are the probable outcomes.)

Please let us know what you find out because we are in the same situation. My child will be 17 in a few months.

I did not call and ask…OP have you called to ask this question?

The OP hasn’t returned to this thread…wondering if that poster called and asked.

@Arihant_Goja

@Mwfan1921 @thumper1 @Ntants I did not ask this. I just called their admissions office to make sure they had received my standardised testing scores. They just told they had received everything, my application was complete, and under process and I’ll get my decision by dec 12. If there might have been any problem I think they would have notified me. I honestly think they don’t care much about that.

Thanks for the update. Please let us know if anything changes, related to application validity based on age, as you hear back.
