<p>Your statement sure sounds like you are STATING A FACT. Let's see. The School of Design received a 3 million dollar grant, the largest on record within a design school, to work with the US Postal Office. The school is about to graduate their first set of PhD students. The school continually attracts top companies to recruit, including Microsoft, General Electric, Apple, Google, eBay, and more. Are these noteworthy enough? What exactly would make the school "newsworthy" for you?</p>
<p>Blanket statements of any kind are probably not productive - including statements that are negative about an institution that is so established that is surely transcends your one visit.</p>
<p>Sigh, read my review of CMU. I did not give them a negative review.</p>
<p>As to the news, When I check the news over a period of time, I found very little concerning the design school compared to that noted in other schools. This certainly is based on what I read over a period of checking out the CMU site. Of course, this is my opinion based on what I have seen.</p>
<p>jkolko, while I appreciate your taking the time to contribute to this forum (from which I have garnered so much POSITIVE information), I think you are a bit over the top here in your criticisms of taxguy's posts. </p>
<p>Forums are for people to share information and their OPINIONS. Personally, I would never take anyone to task about what is written on any online forum. I realize that many people will write informative posts with personal biases whether intended or not. As I have gotten older, I have wisely learned to weigh what people say, take into account the personal biases and not take everything that was said or written as verbatim. </p>
<p>Taxguy has spent a lot of time trying to help people on this board with his viewpoints and often includes an emphasis on the fact that what he shares is just what HE has learned about the school. Try not to be so harsh.</p>

Seems you are a little too defensive here. Perhaps you are showing your bias towards CMU, therefore not allowing you to be totally objective on this subject. There are pros and cons about every school even the ones we have an attachment to. Loosen up and relax, life is to short.</p>
<p>hi ..my son asked me to respond to these questions since i went to RISD, altho years ago. My major was textile design but i did take one ID course in metals. RISD's facilities and faculty are fantastic. its a fairly small school so you get to know people in different departments. I took all my art history courses at Brown since Brown's dept was stellar at the time. YOu can take as many courses at Brown as you can fit in. Also you can't top RISD's freshman foundation program at any other school. It is Bauhaus based and everyone takes a similar set of basic design courses. It is a foundation in design that is unsurpassed. I remember clearly being humiliated in every freshman drawing class by the quality of the work of my classmates. my palms get sweaty just recalling it, but you learn so much, you learn to evaluate each others work ....and you develop a thick skin. Harvard grad school was a snap after risd.</p>
