CMU has Presidential Scholarship and Carnegie Scholarship. The school web site says:
“A student and his/her family must demonstrate some level of financial need based on the FAFSA and CSS PROFILE information in order to qualify for a Presidential Scholarship.”
And
“Carnegie Scholarships are awarded to academically and artistically talented middle income students who qualify for little to no need-based financial aid.”
Any idea what is the limit of income/asset to qualify? If we won’t qualify then there is no point spending time on FAFSA and CSS profile… And what is award for each case?
You would have to ask the school, they make the policies.
You could run an EFC calculator, Collegeboard website has one. You can plug in income and asset numbers and it gives you an EFC based on federal or institutional methodology (though you might not know if CMU uses the same formula for IM).
Then figure current COA - EFC and see if you show any need.
My guess is if you want to try for these scholarships, you should file the FAFSA and CSS profile.
Thank you all for the response! Another thing is, do they take into account the employment status change into consideration? My wife is currently unemployed, but FAFSA uses 2015 tax return…
Hm… Looks like if the income is too high, the employment status does not matter. And the use of “prior year” data is decided by law so nothing can be changed.
