Hi! I recently got into CMU SCS, and I guess I’m just here to look for some reassurance. I’ll be visiting the campus in a week and I’m super excited. However, one thing is holding me back from committing right now - the stress. There’s even a post on this forum that talks about the reasons to not go to CMU, and to be honest, it kinda spooked me. I’m really really worried about the amount of stress that I’ll have as a CS major and I definitely still want time for the ~college experience~ (if not parties, at least going out with friends). I went to a really competitive high school, so I’m no stranger to hard work, and I don’t mind it. In fact, I would rather have a curriculum that challenges me. I’m just terrified of being crushed by the workload. If anyone has insight, please help!!
Also, I might want to transfer into the Stats and Machine Learning program- anyone have insights on that (how hard it is to get in, the workload, etc.)?
@rainyleaf What did you decide to do? If you have very sold math preparation, you can do the work at CMU.
If you got into SCS you can probably transfer to Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Statistics program looks very strong to me, and yes, thats a path if you don’t like SCS but you need to transfer-
Here are the rules about transferring into Dietrich.
