CMU Trying to Save Pennies?

I got a mail from CMU saying that if I do get accepted, I would be receiving an admission packet. BUT, since International delivery takes a long time, I may have to wait for like 30 days! And if I want the packet earlier (because I must enroll by May 1), I must ** pay for speed delivery myself! **

They gave me instructions on how I should send them a couple of dollars for a speedier courier!

Now, I don’t need to remind them, but their tuition fee is one of the highest amongst all universities ($60,000+). They offer no aid absolutely to International Students. They are literally more than twice the cost of most of my schools.

And despite fishing out such exorbitant loads of money from Internationals, they cannot afford to pay for a damn courier? It is so shameful that even such ‘prestigious’ universities will fall so low to make a quick buck.

They want me to get the letter earlier? Send it a week before the decisions are released! I’ll receive the courier in the first week of April then.

And frankly speaking, I’m sure the university may even have done that. They’ll just pocket the fee they’re asking me for then.

No other university has done this. I would have expected it from some average university short of funds or something. But CMU? Seriously? Their courier charges are a mere fraction of the tuition fee! They expect the poor international students to pay the application fee anyways! And now they can’t even afford a paper mail to them. Gosh!

Carnegie does not have fin aid for internationals, so they know the people applying can afford these things, by the way do you know anyone who has not received it, I received it but, my friend maybe hasn’t.

I received the email, and I’m hoping that means good news is en route.

I received the email too. Did some people not receive it?

Only bored1997 can tell us. I’m wondering if we can check our package weights in case we pay for early post. That way we’ll know if we’re accepts/rejects.

I think everyone received the email? Because the email says after the decisions are revealed, then we’d be told how to proceed.

Also, I’m sort of ambivalent on this. When I got my acceptance package from another expensive private university 4 days after it had been mailed (it was marked EXTREMELY IMPORTANT), the delivery guy handed a receipt for the delivery charges to me. I had to pay him ~$5.50, which I didn’t mind, but I think this is the norm if international students want to receive their packages through priority mail. Maybe they’re all just trying to make a quick buck. They make more than a million dollars through all the applications they receive.

Perhaps the timestamps are different.

Yeah i’m pretty sure everyone got it

Yeah my friend received it afterwards. Also I sent them the email and now on my where am i in the process page it says “overnight” decision request in those words, not getting ahead of myself but does it really mean that? If it does I will be ecstatic hahahaha.
Did you guys send it? @arra1997 and @enthouse

@dv2410 and @determined2300 Did you guys see this change?

@Bored1997‌

Yeah I did and I got a reply to but my Where Am I in the process? page is still the same. No change. Maybe they still haven’t updated mine,

And I can’t believe my address is till cut off! I really, really hope they send it to the correct, full address -_-

Yeah @Enthouse I have the same address problem with Columbia, I have emailed them and hope they update it.

CMU says that all decision notices will be available online on Saturday, 28 March 2015, after the mail letters out.

@Bored1997‌ yeah, my portal was updated.

I’m too scared to get an early decision lol, especially since you said “overnight”. Still have a day to change my mind though…

Considering your decision is online and you’re getting zero fin aid, I honestly don’t see a point of an admission letter other than to hang up on your wall.

Yeah so?
