CMU vs. Michigan Engineering

Hi Yes of course!

I currently live in one of the dorms on North Campus. It has been a really good experience so far! I really like my roommate (I went in blind) and the people on my floor. The food has gotten better although it is definitely not mind-blowing, and generally classes are going pretty well!

Be prepared to take the bus to central a lot - a lot of events happen on central and even though they are applying to engineering, engineering freshman almost always have to go to central anyway for chemistry/physics/other LSA courses. I personally do not mind it, but a lot of people far prefer to live on Central campus. North Campus is much quieter and has a lot of nature, which makes it very nice to study and relax in. You will meet a lot of art and engineering students on North, and as an artistic inclined engineer myself I’ve really liked the people I’ve met.

Like I mentioned before, some people may feel a bit isolated by North Campus, but in my opinion it just depends on how proactive you are! I hope this helped

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Such great info and so glad you’re having such a great experience. My kid is a music kid, too, so North might be a good fit for them as well. First, they have to get in, though.. Thanks again!

Don’t discount Central Campus for a musical kid. Alpha Delta Phi, aka “Shady,” blasts their music loudly enough that a musical kid should be able to hear it across Central Campus.
