CMU. What is it like?

Sorry everyone, I posted it on the wrong forum. That is why the title says “CMU. What is it like?”

I will be very straightforward on this one. I got into CMU SCS (I love TLAs, three letter acronyms) and waitlisted on Brown.

The problem is I am thinking about computer science. Although I am seriously computer inclined, I am far from being an antisocial. I have been very involved so far and I am sure I will be so in the rest of my life.

So that is why I am not 100% comfortable with CMU right now. The atmosphere at Brown for example seems perfect for me, very liberal and stimulating.

However I must somehow convice myself that even trying to get into Brown from their waitlist, which I suppose is very hard, is worth it. How is the Computer Science at Brown like? Is it really competent? Do you or anyone around take CS at Brown?

As a prospective CS student, which I am not really really sure what I am going to do in the future, ditching CMU seems weird to me. Nevertheless, I do not also like the idea of ending up at a cubicle in oracle and being laid off because my job gets outsourced in India.

I just need someone to hug I suppose.

My brother majored in CS, and he says the job market for CS graduates hasn't been very good for the past 3-4 years. He also thinks that most IT jobs will be outsourced in the next 5-10 years or so (definitely the low-level jobs), and suggests that people interested in doing CS find a niche to become an expert in, or double major in something else.

Sorry to break it to you, but most IT jobs will be outsourced to india... pretty soon... like lewisloftus said, double major..

To actually answer your question, the CS departement is pretty good.. Check about one guy... Andy Van Dam... Hes supposed to be amazing... Dont know specifics for other professors, but the departement is pretty strong overall from what ive heard..
