I've been accepted into NEU and am planning on majoring in Computer Science. I was wondering if there was anybody on here who knows how effective the co op program is for computer science students. Do you get to co-op at decent companies? And what does working there entail? Do you actually program anything or do you just sit there and get coffee for people.

might get better results asking here

It depends a lot on your skills, GPA, how well you interview…but as the parent of a CS major graduating this spring, I can tell you that Google, Intuit, eBay/PayPal, Trip Advisor are just a few of the companies that seek out top NEU CS majors.

NEU has a “sample” list of CS employers here: [Co-op in the College of Computer and Information Science - Cooperative Education](http://www.northeastern.edu/coop/areas-of-study/co-op-in-the-college-of-computer-and-information-science/)

I’d advise you to begin learning all that you can on your own, if you haven’t begun doing so already. Helps a lot to also get some real experience before applying for co-ops using the knowledge you’ve gained on your own. Write your own app, get freelance work…good stuff that will make you stand out to those top employers.

Thanks NEUMom! If you don’t mind, what were some places that your son did co op at?
