Pump, does anybody have experience with co-op?

I live at Eden House. I’ve said this plenty of times before but I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Rent is pretty cheap, I’ve meet a lot of cool people, I don’t have to worry about thigns like groceries, all my bills are included in my rent, I always have somebody to hang out with, and (in my case anyway) I live in a house that throws kick-ass parties. The thing I like most about living at Eden is that it actually feels like a home. When I come back from class I feel like I’m going back home. I don’t think I’d get that same feeling if I lived in a dorm. Labor isn’t really a big deal at all.

Also most of the houses are very outgoing/party friendly. I wouldn’t live at Helios or Eden if you REALLY don’t like drinking. Not that we are alcoholics or just constantly throw parties without regard to our school work (we know school comes first) but the majority of ICC is outgoing and very party friendly. I was a very big introvert before I came here but I have opened up. A lot of the ICC houses, Helios and Eden included, throw parties every month or so so that is something to consider if you are really against partying.

Thank you @jpgarcia6 for the nice comment. I preferred Helios, Eden, Seneca and French House on my application but so far I only receive respond from Seneca so I guess I would stay there.

@foafoa Well as far as I know Eden is booked aside from a male double (which is the other half of my room). So if you ended up at Eden you would probably be my roommate.

I wanted to comment on jpgarcia6’s comment on drinking at Helios. Of the 17 who live there, only 2 do not drink at all. The other 15 drink a fair amount. However, Helios does not have lots of parties. They are about to have their second party for this semester, so I wouldn’t call it a partying place. What is a partying place is all of west campus. The co-ops just happen to be in that same area.

I can’t find the other comment about age, but the students in Helios are not older. Most are around 20-21.

For the fall, Helios is full. There is room for the summer of 2014. You could be put on the waiting list, as these things are in flux.

@lisiatc Thank, do you live in a co-op too? I was also looking at the College house super co-op right next to Helios, they seem so new and cleaner than the ICC.

I don’t live in a co-op, but know someone who lives in Helios. The ICC houses are older and a little more trouble to keep clean. The super co-op next to Helios has its advantages – newer construction is one plus. Helios’ building was constructed in the late 1800s.

I applied for College Houses co-ops. First choice is Pearl St. Went to a party there the first time I visited Austin and I loved it so why not. :D

Im living in New Zealand and wanna do a exchange next year, obviously I can’t go check them out so what are the general vibes of the ICC and College house coops and what are the main age groups at each? Thanks :)
