How are co-ops for a business major? How much do they pay? Due to the current economy, is there a lot of competition for them?

they do co-op for business majors. You would have to speak with the co op adviser in your major. You could work for top fortune 500 companies in the states or without. I am not too sure how much they pay because they are usually entry level jobs, so they maybe around 12-16 dollars. Yes they economy plays an effect on the jobs but most of the time they will give you the job as long as you have what they are looking for

There are a lot of business co ops. If you are looking into Accounting all the big 4 higher co ops, it seems like Deloitte hires the most. Financial firms Goldman hires a lot and you have BoA, Merril Lynch, Credit Suisse. Finance and Accounting majors make much much more than $12-$15. Accounting majors can make over $30 an hour working 55 workweeks. I know a couple of accounting majors who pay for a lot of their schooling.

In general, is it hard to get a co-op at the Big 4? Do you have to be at the top of your class to get one? Are there a lot of them?

Every accounting major that i know did at least co op at the big 4. The amount you get paid goes up if you come back to the firm so a lot of people tend to stick at the same firms too. I believe Deloitte hires the most kids out of the 4, PWC i assume is 2nd

Alright cool. Do you know any finance or accounting majors who have done co-ops in New York City?

Most of the business coops are in NY, Boston, Chicago, San Fran and Los Angelas but you can find coops at almost any major city domestic and international.

I had a friend coop at ML in NYC

do you go off to coop? like live outside of the university?

When do most people start their FIRST co-op? Can it be as early as the Spring semester of your sophomore year?

The school has housing set up in New York and DC (not sure about others) because of the large number of students doing co ops there. For instance I know kids that go to NYC live in the New Yorker typically. Students can go on co op spring semester of sophomore year, accounting majors like to go during tax season. My biggest piece of advice on securing the best co ops for your first one is to try your best to get an internship during the school year or during your freshman year summer, itll give you a great leg up on all the rest of the sophomores/middlers.

I am almost 100% positve for New York Northeastern owns or leases sections of various hotels/high rises and converted them into apartments in midtown manhattan and they are strictly reserved for Northeastern students. I have met students do this or go find housing on their own. As for international i am assuiming you would have to find your own housing but Northeastern will undoubtedly help you out. NEU actually has a section of MYNEU Portal dedicated to this. My friend is studying abroad at London School of Economics this summer and she is living on their campus.

To swimchris: Does Northeastern have listings of internships? Or would I have to find one on my own?

Co ops there is a large database that you will be taught how to use. As far as an internship itll take a bit more work from you. Some companies will post about internships through the school, but you are almost better off making connections with professors or applying exactly to where you might want to work (generally around Feb)
