I have sent an email to the UChicago cross country and track coach approximately three weeks ago, but have yet to get a reply. Should I resend the email? Should I not? Is it too late in the process for it too do any good? I am applying EA, and is it OK to keep in contact with him during from November to December? Thanks.

Pick up the phone and call!!!

I agree with momof2010. Call the coach and leave a message. Be sure to submit a recruitment questionnaire if they have one (check the website). The coaches are very busy right now so keep trying until you connect.

Good luck!

Ok, thanks. How should I start out the phone call? What info should I provide? Will he ask me everything he wants to know?

Just call him and tell him who you are and that you are interested in being part of the Uof Chicago cross country team. If you have sent him info about yourself you can reference that. Coaches are used to talking to recruits so I am sure the conversation will continue on from there rather easily.

Again, good advice from momof2010. Also, have your stats in front of you because the coach is going to ask you your times. The coach will be totally honest with you and let you know if your times are what they’re looking for. Depending on your times, you could be a walk-on or a scholarship recruit.

Editor, UChicago is D3 so no scholarships. Word on the street is that admissions support for athletes may not be as strong at UChicago as it is at some other D3s - but by all means, pick up the phone and call - you have nothing to lose.

Keep in mind also that they are just really busy right now with conference and post-season tournaments. Many D3 schools don’t do a lot of recruiting until after the season for CC. It’s also possible that either your email didn’t go through or he just missed it. I agree that you should call, leave a message with your name, phone number and that you sent an email on whatever date with info but you are following up on that.

^second that but if your nervous about calling you can just send another email. Then if he doesn’t reply again, then you have to call.

Did orginal poster ever hear back from coach or call directly? UChicago coach is a really nice approachable guy…hope it works out, they have a good team as well!
