Hello, Just noticed that cognitive science major is being offered by a lot of universities. However, it is NOT provided by everyone yet ( of course, not mean liberal art colleges here). Not sure if anyone can share some ideas, overviews and insight for this major for undergrad student? what career this major could be related to? is this a good major from job perspective? what kind of student will be good fit for this major? Thanks a lot!
There’s a lot of artificial intelligence and machine learning involved with Cog Sci that is very cutting edge. For example, the whole area involving self-driving cars.
Cognitive Science is often an interdisciplinary study that involves many different subjects - in addition to Cognition, Computer and Data Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, MicroCell Biology, etc.
Thanks! @ProfessorPlum168 those are very helpful! I have looked at the courses in some universities, some of them, Cog Sci is provided by Psychology department. Does this mean this is more leaning on psychology side, instead of Computer and Data science? I am also wondering if this is a good study field for non-decided pre-med student? since biology/neuroscience involved more or less here…
The mix depends on the school. Some schools lean more heavily psychological, others may be more of an even mix between fields, some schools may dig more deeply into the computer science. Many schools will probably let you customize your program to a certain degree, so you can choose.
You can major in anything to be pre-med, you just have to take the right classes. It doesn’t matter whether your major is biology or neuroscience-related. So yes, cognitive science can be a good major for med school.
Thanks, juillet! I guess probably for now we will spend more time to research cognitive science program in each school. Since D is hesitate between computer science and biology fields. The cognitive science can let her explore deeply. Very appreciate!
