Something that I take with a grain of salt with these decisions: I applied for no FA. Idk just wanted to share that I hope I didn’t get admitted mainly because of that because it feels crappy to not earn it and I don’t want to take someone’s spot who deserves it. Any thoughts?
Stop. The college saw something in you, don’t backtrack and downplay your own achievements (I’m saying this rn for myself too bc I got accepted into two reach schools and feel unworthy as well). You deserve it.

If you didn’t earn that spot you would not have been offered it. Why would you think FA has anything to do with it?

I don’t know why they chose you because I wasn’t in that room when they decided but to be honest I would admit you just for your great personality which shows in you thinking about others… but nothing comes undeserved, you earned it and you should cherish it

Me too! Honestly I’m glad because as an international student with a literal 10k EFC it was a pleasant surprise! Keep your head up. Look at what it says on the website: If you received a waitlist decision, we believe you have the potential to succeed at Colby.

I do think applying for financial aid has a lot to do with decisions this year for schools that aren’t need blind. Skidmore and Colby are not need blind, my DS applied for aid and was rejected at both.

Being full pay at a need aware college helps you. Doesn’t mean you aren’t qualified but it is in your favor as far as admissions I think. My son is a current full pay student his sister was just admitted. I am sure this was in their favor as well. Colby provides great financial aid to the students they do give it to. Very few colleges are need blind as I am sure you know.

yeah so I’m struggling with the idea that i took your kid’s spot bc I didn’t apply for FA. feels messed up.

You didn’t “take” anyone’s spot! You earned the spot that you were given based on performance, grades, essays and recommendations. Do not ever question whether or not you deserve it! Colleges make decisions that are impersonal when it comes to their bottom line for budgets.
