Colby Class of 2025 -- Regular Decision Date: Mid-March

As with other data related to admission, yield can be fractionated. With the figure of 44%, I was referring to overall yield.

Yes, in any event it’s great if some people get in off waitlist as it’s a more meaningful process

Am thinking ahead to life after Colby. Does anyone know how proactive career services are at the school? Is there meaningful assistance connecting students with internships?
Are there quality recruiters that come to campus in the spring, seeking out graduating seniors?

We toured another NESCAC recently and the students were very proud of how strong the alumni network is in mentoring and helping to find jobs for those who are about to graduate.

From last year.

Thank you! It would be interesting the see the stats on how well the Pay it Northward program worked last year.

This initiative came about due to the challenges of finding jobs during a pandemic, but it would be great to use it as a springboard to grow a program that will improve job prospects for future graduating classes.

@itsawrap , my kid had amazing experiences with career services throughout. And he found Colby’s alumni network super helpful as well.

according to the news and messages, Colby did in fact find jobs or internships for all students who wanted (many headed to grad school). In fact, they diverted the people who do fundraising for the school to focus on job connections for the graduating seniors

An important point is that even at schools with strong alumni networks that the alumni aren’t going to contact the student…the student needs to make the effort. Especially if the student are targeting competitive types of jobs (e.g., IB, other banking, consulting) students have to be proactive in contacting/working closely with career services (starting freshman year), as well as be actively networking with alumni via LinkedIn. Many students who are successful in getting placement in the above types of jobs tend to be the most prolific networkers.

^^ Yes, very true!

DS found that alumni were almost always willing to talk and help him through the process in their organizations.

The school also did networking events and career exploration events in NY and Boston, so in those cases, the alums were curated for them.

FYI that Colby has started contacting people on the waitlist. Presumably to make them an offer of acceptance. My D21 received an email today to arrange a call tomorrow. However, she politely declined - after visiting last weekend she has decided to pursue other options. Sharing for info and hopefully that opens up a slot for someone else.

No I’m

I am going to decline my offer of admission as well. Hope this means another gets their well-deserved spot. People getting off the WL this early is quite unusual, and seems like a very good sign for those who were waitlisted here.

Where have you decided to go?

Currently deciding between Vassar and Amherst. Right now I am visiting both

Both are great choices. Amherst is right near the center of town. Relatively small town but it’s got a great feel, particularly if you’re more progressive. My daughter attends UMass Amherst nearby and loves the area. My son is likely choosing Colby, but was also looking at UMass Amherst and if he was picking based on towns, it would be Amherst. I’m sure Vassar, with proximity to NYC is a great draw too.

We are about to take a road trip too. It’s a very long one 6 hours to Carnegie Mellon then to Case Western then all the way to Baylor stopping off at Vanderbilt on the way home.

You have 2 great choices, do you favor one over the other?

@3times3 yes both have really nice locations!

@Xanthous1 currently leaning a little toward Amherst, but still not committed anywhere!

And wow! What great options!

Hey everyone,
It was so helpful reading this thread as a prospective Colby applicant who applied for the regular decision round class of 2026. I am an international student and a month ago I received an email for a conversation with a current student but I did not schedule one. Yesterday I received an Invitation to Submit Additional Materials with that being said I don’t have any updates to talk about. What do you advise me to do?
