I've asked my family, friends, and college counselor, but my decision has not moved an inch in the past two weeks that I've had all my decisions.

I love both schools, but I have one issue with each of them. With Colby, I'm worried about it's lack of diversity. As for Grinnell, I've been told time and time again that there's tons to do on campus, but I can't get past the fact that I won't be in the East Coast, where I've always imagined going for college, and where some of my family and friends are.

I mentioned what I'm mainly concerned about, but I'd really like to hear anything that you all have to say about this. :)

only you can decide. everyone has different priority. it might help to ask yourself what your like best about each school as oppose to what you dislike most about them.

colby has equally little to do off-campus as grinnell. just a thought. i’d honestly go to grinnell. it’s better ranked and not quite so cold and more centrally located. but colby is a fine school too. just saying i have heard the isolated complaint from MORE colby than grinnell students, actually.

The one thing about Grinnell that stands out in my mind is that it has tons of dough… so I imagine its facilities are pretty amazing.

If you are looking to be on the East coast after graduation, I would definitely go to Colby. A lot of USNWR rankings are subjective, including what weights to give different categories. To me, the discrepancy between the two on USNWR isn’t enough to choose on that basis; especially since much of Grinnell’s ranking has to do with a large advantage in endowment, which to me is an over-rated factor in deciding where to go to school. I think whether a school pays $100K per student or $60K per student is relatively meaningless and un-noticable in comparison to the personality, size, environment and location of the school.

Agree with lauren that Grinnell students don’t seem to complain about the isolation or the cold nearly as much as many students in LACs in the Northeast do.

Any way you could visit them? If not, you could at least try to get into contact with alum from your school who went to one of the two and ask about their experiences.
