Colby vs. Middlebury vs. Wesleyan

I know, I know; It’s yet another one of those “vs” posts that reduces the college search process to a cold-cut comparison between indescribably unique schools. It’s just that I’ve been doing a ton of research by myself and would love to be refreshed by an alternate perspective!

What I want in a college:

Academic interests: Government/political science, Writing (particularly creative writing), Sociology, and anything involving human rights.
Social: I’d love to become a part of politically active groups focused on pursuing liberal causes like civil and minority rights. I would also be interested in literary and political publications. Also, I want a campus with a solid and vibrant queer presence because I’m straight as a rainbow.
Student Body: I want a student body that, quite simply, cares a lot. I want to be surrounded by passionate minds in an inspiring environment. I want a lot of different perspectives and experiences to learn from.

I would appreciate any insight that anyone can give, particularly from past or current students. Thank you so very much in advance.

For social activism, engagement, and inclusion, I vote for Wesleyan.

Pretty sure that you are describing Wesleyan.

@Publisher Really? Would Wesleyan be that good of a fit for me? I wouldn’t be too surprised, quite honestly.

Yes, but Middlebury is also within your parameters.

Nothing against Colby, but your other two options are outstanding in light of your stated preferences.

My sorting hat says, “Middlebury had a little Murray action, but let’s not go overboard. It’s Wesleyan for this one, forever more!”
