Ok, a more thorough explanation:
I meant mainstream in terms of sound/style, not as in of popularity. (Though it must be admitted that the two often, but not always, go together.) They've been huge for a few years now and that didn't change my opinion of the other albums at all.
I tend to like music that is a little more creative and complex, that's just my personal preference...this album just puts me to sleep. The previous two had really good, catchy melodies and so I liked it quite a bit, even though it wasn't the most interesting stuff, but now they don't even have that. The whole "arena rock" sound permeating this album is just less creative and emotional and it doesn't do anything for me.
I apologize for being all pretentious and elitist, that's what listening to and loving bands like Radiohead and Sigur Ros does to a person : )

Radiohead=Sigur Ros>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Coldplay

I loved "In My Place" from A Rush of Blood to the Head. That song just makes me feel tingly inside.

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow are a beautiful couple indeed. And I think it's great that Chris supports fair trade.

I always thought that Coldplay wanted to be like 80s era U2, with their sonic ambient sound and Chris Martin's political grandstanding. Unfortunately, Coldplay lacks U2's earnest passion and charisma, though they (CP) can craft more beautiful melodies.

Anyway, I've had X&Y for a couple of weeks, and I haven't really opened up to it; all the songs kind of sound the same.

PS I despise Gwyneth Paltrow.
