Likewise!

Iā€™m sure that letter was vetted by numerous people. I think the intent was good, but the execution did more harm than good. Would have been better with a generic statement about the unprecedented number of applicants and how admissions had to make some very difficult decisions. Follow that up with a regretfully we cannot offer you admission and close things out with best of luck in the future. When the news is bad, best to keep it short and impersonal.

Northeastern took a lean and mean approach and it was not appreciated either. pretty much no good way to deliver the ā€œbadā€ news I guess.

Iā€™m sorry for those that didnā€™t get in. From what I gather, that is the same rejection letter that gets sent every year. I think the news stings regardless of the delivery but I donā€™t find the letter to be particularly unkind or insensitive. I have seen it referenced elsewhere and the recipient found it to be more kind and sensitive than any other rejection letter.

Iā€™m sorry about your sonā€™s disappointing results. He sounds like a terrific young man and heā€™s clearly an excellent student. FWIW, Wesleyan usually gets far fewer male applicants than female, so if the pool this year follows suit, the odds are in his favor. I took a look at their latest Common Data Set b/c my D was denied RD while she was accepted at more competitive schools and I learned that last year they had 7889 female applicants vs 4743 male applicants. They accepted 1552 females and 1088 males so it was much more competitive for females. Wishing your son the best of luck. Itā€™s so hard! Thank you very much for the information, he really just wants one of these schools to accept him.

Just received a package from Colgate congratulating me and I think itā€™s so nice they took the effort to personalize the package, there was a handwritten letter, and idk what is is but I opened the little thing they included that said hello and it started playing a video from the president and it came with a charger, and pencils and a sharpener. Colgate is very thoughtful!

My understanding is you donā€™t declare your major not until towards the end of sophomore year. My daughter just declared her major in computer science last month. She plans to double major but hasnā€™t decided yet whether to do Economics or something else. Good luck to all of you!

thatā€™s so nice. My son was accepted ED in December. He received a letter with a personal note as well but that was it! LOL

For those of your who got the admitted student package with the video, how did it come? UPS?

My daughterā€™s came regular mail.

Regular mail., itā€™s like the package my DDā€™s Taylor Swift tickets came in a couple years back. Not sure about DS but they won my wife over!

My daughter was accepted ED2 and received a letter with a personal note in February. Today she received the admitted student package with the video. It came in regular mail

Is there a video IN the package? How does that work? Or is it a code that you scan with your phone? Do you think it is only for those who committed or is it everyone who was accepted?

The video is in the package. Itā€™s a rectangular box that looks like a thick postcard. When you open the flap of the box a video starts to play on a screen.

Yes, UPS dropped it off.

Do you think every accepted student got a hand written note? My son did and the they quoted a line from his personal essay back to him in the note.
