<p>While being a Colgate alum, and therefore somewhat biased, I would not have become one if I didn't think it was a top tier school. I think it is considered especially strong in the Social Sciences. Here is an impartial ranking that I recently came across that may set it in context for you.</p>
<p>yes, it is definitely highly thought of by unaffiliated people, and more importantly, grad schools and people in the know.</p>
