Just wondering if others have experienced a very large rejection rate this year. My son is a top notch student with excellent writing skills so I have been very surprised at the number of rejections he received this year from places I thought were a shoo-in. . . .
This year was one of the most unpredictable and difficult from the standpoint of admissions, from reach to safety. Test-optional - plus lack of ability to visit campuses - meant more applicants, lower acceptance rates, and longer waitlists.
At the aggregate level, the results seemed to stay the same. Our school for example, got roughly the same number into the top schools as in previous years. This makes sense in that the number of strong students nationwide did not change.
But at the individual level, there was less “signal” for colleges to make their decisions since just about everywhere went test optional. So at this level, there was much more randomness in terms of decisions.
I believe there were less slots all around because of deferrals from the previous class.
