College Admission

Hi there! I got an email from the IU admission office saying that I need to send my first marking period grades before they make a decision. I have a 30 ACT and a 3.2 GPA but have been taking challenging AP and honors classes since my freshmen year. I applied to the college of liberal arts and sciences to major in biology (Is that a difficult major to get in to?). Unfortunately my current highschool doesn’t send transcripts per quarter but per semester. IU wants to see my mid semester grades and my school cannot do that. Do I have a better chance in getting into IU if I re apply and change my major and make my essays stronger or if I just submit my 1st semester transcript at the beginning of January? Please help! IU is my dream school and I don’t know what to do

your school should be able to print out and mail directly to IU admissions some version of an informal transcript. The may not do it if YOU ask but they will likely do it if a parent asks

Direct admit anything at IU generally requires higher grades while University Division (?) is the general admission route. You could try that too.

You’ve already applied so withdrawing the current application and resubmitting probably won’t do anything for you. You are better to send your transcript but you may want to call admissions and let them know what your school does around grades to make sure that won’t be too late.

The first hurdle for all applicants is to just get accepted into the University or what is displayed as the University Division. Once you are admitted for higher achievers they can be Directly Admitted into their intended major. For those that aren’t Direct Admit, you are in the university division where you do your core classes and then apply to get into your intended major after I think one year, but probably need to check your intended program of studies for the exact information on time and required GPA.

Is that GPA an unweighted or weighted score? My guess is if you talked your counselor they will be able to get you what you need. If they say no, then I would escalate it up until I found someone to get me the scores. A school should be able to provide a Senior applying for schools with the information needed.

IU has been very responsive so I suggest calling and offering to email a copy of your mid-semester report card, maybe with a GC signature if needed.
