Wow, that means Caltech applications went up 11.7% this year.
2017: 525 out of 7339 (7.2%)
2018: 537 out of 8200 (6.5%)
They will probably admit some off the waitlist, so the admit rate will increase a bit.

@Ynotgo Also, 52 percent of those who were accepted to Caltech are women.
@vhsdad Since women have historically had a lower yield, that will likely put the M:F ratio again around 55:45.
@MomofK UCSD is much harder to get into than SDSU. If you look at their average gpa, sat, act etc. Also, SDSU from an article I read, doesn’t give preference to local area anymore because it is so popular.
Not according to this article: https://edsource.org/2017/csu-looks-to-favor-locals-in-admission-a-move-that-will-help-those-who-need-to-stay-close-to-home/589011
If the article doesn’t link, google, “To help those who need to stay close to home, state tells CSU to favor local students in admission”.
You have it backwards. The more popular a CSU gets, the greater the pressure to give preference to locals. People tend to get upset when they are rejected from their local CSU, because this commonly means that they will have to be residential students at some non-local campus instead of simply commuting to school. If you are forced to be a residential student, rather than a commuter, then your college costs are going to go way up, especially in California where rents are high.
The only CSUs that aren’t under pressure to give preference to locals are the unpopular ones. That’s because they have plenty of room for locals and non-locals alike.
From the Daily Aztec, Jan 2017:
Does anyone know the acceptance rate of the University of Michigan for this year? I’ve heard different numbers but I’m not sure which are correct
I also would love to hear about Michigan, and IS vs. OOS, if at all possible.
from GW: The acceptance rate for the Class of 2022 stands at 41.8 percent – nearly one full percentage point up from last year’s 41 percent. Admissions experts said as prospective students send their applications to more schools each year, the University’s acceptance rate will rise to compensate for the decreased likelihood that students will attend – a trend seen at universities across the nation.
About 11,100 students were accepted into the Class of 2022 – roughly the same as last year when GW admitted a record number of students, Laurie Koehler, the vice provost for enrollment management and retention, said.

How credible is 84% -85% yield rate for 2022 Stanford?
I’m surprised it’s not 94%-95%.
