Alright now that the excitement has settled, I’ve put some thought in to everything.
The Elon acceptance essentially eliminates all of my OOS options. It’s down to:
UNCCH
Elon
UNCW
If I get in to Chapel Hill (still a very very very long shot) I’m going to go, no questions about it.
If I get in to Wilmington but not Chapel Hill, I’ll most likely visit both again before making a decision. I really like Elon, but I do have to think about if it’s worth the extra money over Wilmington.
And obviously, if I get in to neither, Elon it is!
But at this point, I can say that I’m sure I’ll be happy anywhere I end up, as these were my top 3 options all along. Sorta crazy that it’s going to come down to just reach schools in the end…
Right now, I would say there is probably am 85% chance of me ending up at Elon.
My dad still hasn’t actually seen the campus so we’re going to drive over there (we live about 40 minutes from it) some time this week so he can check it out, and I can get some merch
Just submitted my fellows application for Elon. Applied for Communication and Leadership. With my scores, it feels like a pretty long shot, but I felt like I should at least try. I’m pretty confident about my essays so anything could happen. We’ll see!
Just a quick update: Waiting for my UNC decision is absolutely killing me. Most likely 2 more weeks at least… I know my chance of admission seems very slim to none from my stats (which it probably is, I’m not going to argue against that,) but I have been holding out hope that some of my connections to the university will allow a miracle to happen.
I saw the person who wrote my additional rec the other day (an old high ranking employee and with connections to admissions) who said she “has a great feeling about it.”
I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high. I’ll know sooner or later.
In other news, I have been getting really excited about Elon recently!! I went out with my parents to see the campus and they loved it. I even got some merch I talked to a few of my friends who go there when they were home for the holidays and they had nothing but good things to say.
I can’t wait until the day I can make my official decision, hopefully no more than 2 weeks away!!!
unexpected surprise when I got home from school today…
Accepted to Washington College with an $11,000 a year merit scholarship!
Its not a serious contender at the moment, considering with the scholarship its still the same price of Elon, but it was a nice acceptance.
The letter included a nice hand written note “I’m glad you were able to turn things around in school. Welcome to the class of 2020!” It was a really nice personal touch and shows they clearly take the time consider each applicant as a person.
With two weeks before the BIG day (UNC and NCSU decisions), here is the admissions score card:
Accepted:
Elon (with Engagement Scholarship($4500))
Washington College (With $11,000 merit scholarship)
Mizzou
Alabama
Deffered:
USCarolina
UNCWilmington
Rejected:
None!
Waiting:
UNCCH
NCSU
UNCC
Wofford
College of Charleston
@MYOS1634 very true. The only regret I have is not submitting an application to Wake Forest. It would have been a pretty high reach for sure, but I think the holistic-ness of it all probably would have played in my favor. Especially with their application being so writing based.
Possibly a good omen…
I submitted my UNCC application on 9/29 and was told I would hear in about 45 days.
Well, about 100 days later I have finally heard.
Accepted to UNCC.
Hopefully the acceptance streak can keep up going in to the weekend…
@ntk131998 Good Luck on your Fellows App. I have applied as well and started a thread over on the Elon forum specifically for Fellows info if you are interested.
Great news! Your story has been such a joy to read. I’m so glad you have been trying to get into all of these schools, despite what others may “predict” about your chances. Just goes to show that you never know.
Your story has reminded me of a friend of mine, whose daughter’s grades were similar to yours. Her SAT scores were lower, somewhere around 1000. Everyone told her that she would never get into a descent college. She applied to four universities and was accepted at all of them. She attends ECU and has been doing very well for the last two years.
=D> I know you are glad you tried, no “what if’s” to haunt you. And I am glad you weren’t deferred, I have seen people enroll at other schools and still put deposits on Granville Towers hoping they will get in at the last minute. I guess as soon as you hear from State you will be ready to narrow it down. You have some great choices! (There is something to be said for not following the herd to CH)
