Okay…big day.
Elon decision comes out at midnight tonight. If I got in to Elon, that would essentially eliminate all other schools except UNC, UNCW, and NC State. I’m not too confident about it though after the South Carolina fiasco, but it would be awesome to start the holidays on a high note.
did you have good first quarter grades to send them? If not, MAKE SURE your first semester grades are better than your overall UW GPA, and send them in to UNCW, S. Carolina, and any other school from which you were deferred/which you’re still waiting on.
@LBad96 my school refuses to send first quarter grades to colleges, and won’t send semester grades until the end of January. (I also think my schools guidance department is horribly run and makes things very complicated, but that’s for another post) Also, to make matters worse my school switched grading systems this year. We no longer use letter grades, just numbers. So I can send an unofficial screenshot of my grades from my PowerSchool account, but I can’t send official grades.
Also, South Carolina said very clearly not to send them anything else and they will just throw it away…
I’m considering writing my UNCW admissions councelor and just telling him that UNCW is my top choice and send my unofficial grades and hope that it will help.
Ouch…that S. Carolina issue reminds me of a large state flagship that I applied to last year…they said on their website that they only made decisions based on your GPA through the end of junior year for EA. So I felt that their policy screwed me over because the newer grades would have helped me.
But yeah, I would detach myself from S. Carolina completely if I were you. Indeed focus on UNCW.
Accepted to Elon with a $4,500 Elon engagement scholarship!!! I stayed up till midnight to find out, then fell asleep and just woke up (4:30 AM currently)
Sadly no one is awake to join me in the excitement
Congratulations! I have been following your story with great interest. My son is a sophomore in high school and has similar grades and I worry about where he will go. We are visiting Elon next month for my other son, who is a junior, but I’m thinking it may be a good fit for both of them. Please let us know what you hear from the other universities!
@sbgal2011 thank you! I will absolutely keep updating my story until the end. When it comes to Elon, I think my demonstrated interest is what did it for me. I visited once, attended two meetings at my school, and contacted my admissions counselor pretty regularly during the process. Elon is clearly very holistic which is a huge benefit.
Yea! I had a good feeling about Elon, and it sounds like a good fit for you. But if you still want the option of UNCW I agree that you should reach out to the admissions councilor. I hear about lots of students coming of the wait list there, as you know it is a big back up school for UNC and NCSU so once those start to come in people will let spots go at UNCW. But it is so nice to have Elon in the bag, I have never heard anything bad from people that go there.
Wow, I just checked the Elon thread, looks like some are deferred with numbers close to yours, must make you feel good! And a scholarship!! I think Elon may be the place for you, as you said many pages ago…
Thank you all for your good wishes!! I’m currently working on my essays for the fellows application. I know its a long shot, but thats how I felt about getting in, let alone getting a scholarship, so it can’t hurt to try!!
Elon has quickly become my 2nd choice behind the incredibly high reach of UNC, and things are starting to look like it may very well be where I end up. It feels incredibly nice to have an acceptance that I’m really excited about, and will make for a very enjoyable holiday break.
