College Asks for "Favorite Required Readings From Past Year"

A university asks for my favorite required readings in the past year, and my dilemma is this: I don’t have senior English class until my next trimester, and I don’t think there even are any required novels, and we only had two required readings last year, The Great Gatsby and The Scarlet Letter, both of which I didn’t like at all. I don’t want to lie on my application and say I liked them, but I had no other required readings and I’m 99.9% sure it would be VERY wrong to fabricate required readings in a college app. Should I go ahead and use some of my sophomore year readings? I enjoyed nearly all of those, but the question asks for readings from the past year. Should I go ahead and just write in Gatsby and Scarlet Letter?

You had no required readings in any class. Nothing for history?

@skieurope There is no history class for seniors at my school. And I didn’t have any required readings for APUSH last year.

Why don’t you try to explain that you only had two required reading last year, choose your favorite of the two, and then write a nice explanation of why you didn’t like the book. If your critique and insight is strong enough I don’t think that it will matter whether you enjoyed the book or not.

@abck43 I was considering doing that, but it specifically says to list the books and only gives me 50 characters to do so. I guess I’ll just write in those two books. I didn’t like them, but I’ve read worse.
