@Squirg “I really wish more schools would go test optional.” Yes, I agree. DD has been working very hard for the last 3 years, getting straight As in all AP and IB classes, top of her class, leaderships, great EC, etc, and has to decide which school to apply to based on a test that is taken in 4 hours. I guess colleges use the standardized test to weed people out!
If they don’t change their decision I might find myself possibly cancelling my score. I won’t accept that much of a decrease on my score.
@BenzeneRings I agree August/Sept will be better.
Wow I just called college board and their own employees didn’t even know that section 8 and 9 are going to be canceled! Anyways after being on the phone with them for an hour, I was still disappointed to hear that they would average out scores from the two previous section to act as our third section. I asked their employee “so basically what you’re telling me is that the college board is willing to sacrifice our academic integrity and put our college apps at risk to save money?” And he told me “yes ma’am” and then I said “so you do know how unfair that is right?” And he told me “Yeah it’s terrible”.Even the college board employees recognized the unfairness and lack of integrity!
@Canon7130 Tell CB you need to know if there is any possibility of a potential retake, before you cancel. Also, express your outrage for this situation and ask them proof for how they know their test achieves their claim:
“To accommodate the wide range of incidents that can impact a testing experience, the SAT is designed to collect enough information to provide valid and reliable scores even with an additional unscored section.”
I plan to do the same, I have nothing really to garner from this situation, my score is quite high all ready and I am fairly sure I got the elusive 800 in math this time around. However, it is disgraceful what this “nonprofit” is doing and threatens to make even more of a joke of our Nation’s education. We must stand against this transgression.
I think they ought to refund everyone’s test fees.
Yeah same I think I did rather well on the math section with the exception of 1 or 2 i had difficulty with, but that means they’ll be weighted more, and I don’t like the idea of that.
In the first FAQ to the released statement, CB says: “The time allotted for a specific math or reading section — either section 8 or 9, depending on the edition — was incorrect in the student test books . . .”
In the second FAQ they state: “After a comprehensive review and statistical analysis, the College Board and ETS have determined that the affected sections will not be scored. . .”
OK, does this mean that either 8 or 9 will not be scored depending upon which affected you directly? Or does it mean that 8 AND 9 will not be scored for all, because they were the affected sections nationally?
In the 3rd FAQ CB states “To accommodate the wide range of incidents that can impact a testing experience, the SAT is designed to collect enough information to provide valid and reliable scores even with an additional unscored section.” Additional to what???
This press release seems deliberately, outrageously obfuscatory. They could simply say “sections 8 and 9 will not be scored for everyone”, if that’s what they mean. But I’m not sure they do mean that.
In its online materials CB offers this strategy to students for the essay part of the test: “The essay gives you an opportunity to show how effectively you can develop and express ideas.” However, if a student were to present this press release as his/her essay, he/she would receive a very low score.
Yeah they will not be scored for everyone unless we can do something about it.
There should be an optional retake for those who want it. Not doing so and only using two sections is absurd. Students being penalized for a College Board mistake is wrong.
It seems as if “sections” is being used in two different ways. The CB statement refers to “sections 8 and 9” whereas some posters are referring to 3 sections.

We should just stop taking SATs. From overwhelming students to screwing up the test itself, SAT sucks.
I just tweeted them to ask if they are cancelling 8 & 9 for everyone or just 8 or 9 depending on which version of the test they took. I will be interested in what they reply back.
Here are some possible contacting options to make sure CB doesn’t sweep this under the rug too quickly:

I wish some colleges tell the CB that they won’t accept the June 6 SAT.
@coolweather Why? Lets allow the test takers to decide if they want the test to be sent or not, not colleges.
^ But the CB does not allow retaking now. Besides the shortened version of the SAT is not what the colleges as well as students signed up for.
@coolweather Why would you wish that? That wouldn’t be beneficial to any of the test takers. Say someone got the score they were striving for: They most definitely would not want to take it again.
No he’s right it shouldn’t be accepted. Instead there should be a retake.
@DNuge98 Don’t you see many posters don’t agree with the CB solution?
