College Bulletin Boards, one deciding factor

My kid, a current HS junior, has now taken enough college tours to decide his favorite way to judge a college’s personality and community - the old fashioned low tech physical bulletin board. We always look for the places where posters cluster.

I have to admit I like to read them too. Are they advertising parties? Lectures? Political protests? Plays? Concerts? Interactive movie showings? Art exhibits? What are current students interested in? If my son sees a number of things he would like to attend, he has an easier time imagining himself making the college his home.

I wish more colleges put pictures of their physical bulletin boards on their websites. If any college social media representatives are reading this, please consider putting a section on your website with pictures of one of your central bulletin boards, perhaps periodically updated so we can see the mood of the campus changing over time.

This is a great insight and very true. You can tell a lot about the culture of a place by the fliers hanging around.

How funny! S did the same thing! He actually changed his first pick college due to flyers of clubs pertaining to his career interest.
