Columbia, Penn, Georgetown and Emory will be reaches or reachy-matches, but you should be good everywhere else. Out of curiousity, what school do you go to? That might make a difference. If you go to a place like Eleanor Roosevelt, it might help.

I agree with the above. Good luck!

NYU Slight Reach
Georgetown Reach
Fordham Match
GWU Match
UPenn Reach
Depaul Safety
Loyola College OF Maryland safe match
Emory Reach

what exactly do you mean "bright black male?" --meaning what do you define a "bright black male" as?

and I go to DuVal HS, roosevelt is OK but no paintbranch.
and I sense that you are a bit complacent about your URM status. I too am a black male. some bio on your NYU competition:

I qualified for Honors English 101 at PGCC in 11th grade
By the end of the summer, i'll have completed Applied Calculus 1 & 2 at PG
I'm taking Mltivarious Calculus at (yes) Eleanor roosevelt next year.

i've got a 1470 m +v SAT score
and 3.7 11th/12th(estimate) grade GPA

all i'm saying is, there are a LOT of "bright black males" out there.

i go to paint branch. I almost went to duvall but i got into the science and tech program at roosevelt. Then after 1 year at Roosevelt my mom moved me to montgomery county because we were on government housing. so ive been at paint branch since then. YOur stats are good and, yeah ive got competition, but im trying to boost myself up and not let my competition keep me from thriving. my point is i just try my best and do what i have to do and not stress myself that there are people out there who are doing better then me.

ur gunna go 2 a good college thats all that matters

I normally don't do chances threads, but this thread interested me. I'm not going to tell you which schools are reaches, matches, or safeties because everyone has a "chance" at a school, it's just that some people in a statistical sense have better chances, but who am I to judge?? What I'm basically saying is that apply to all the schools on the lists, and hope for the best.

You will REALLY,REALLY need good essays that will seperate you from the "bright black males". Black males are in high demand, but you need to keep in mind that you will be competing with other black males with higher test scores, higher GPAs, nationally acclaimed ECs, and etc.

Sorry to put it bluntly, but your ECs for the school don't really look all the spectacular, because they don't "look" like you are really passionate about it. I'm not trying to say that you aren't passionate, but it's all about how you present yourself on paper. Have you entered contests for your films? That is a pretty good EC, if you really are a talented filmmaker. Your GPA is kind of on the low side for most of the schools on your list, but maybe your your class rank will help us determine whether or not you GPA is low or not? Are you taking any foreign language classes???...it could help since you want to go into international business and all. Best of luck to you!

my point. so many people here talk about doing extraordinarily well on these tests, and think if they dont get into ivy league schools their gonna die, or never gonna succeed. true if u get into a good college it gives u a leg up and a name, but if ur as smart as your test scores and can work as hard as your grades and classes say the ur gonna get into a college that will allow u to succeed.

^Ummm...was that post directed towards me??

im passionate. i can see a kid say theyve been doing piano 12 years of their life but doesnt mean their passionate about it. ive done these things because i actually like doing them. i forgot to add drama, and yes i have entered a film festival. ITs called SIlverDOCS, in a contest called 48 HOURS (its where they give u 48 hours to make a movie with a genre drawn out of a hat). I did it because i really really love movies. any body who knows me knows this, and they know ive learned all i can about filmmaking from studying other filmmakers.

Well you need to convey it in an essay or another grouping format, just because people all around you know that you are passionate about your ECs, doesn't mean that colleges will know. It is your job to show them your passion.

of course im gonna do that. I cant show my passion in just a forum, its just a forum.

The colleges will be looking at your application, they will be trying to get a sense of who you are through paper without even meeting you. The same thing applies on a forum, because I looked at your resume, and that is what college admissions officers are going to do...look at your resume along with your ECs.

and most of the people i know, just do their EC's for college anyway. but i wont stress myself out over what other people have, im just gonna show myself as really passionate.

i understand u see a forum, but of course im gonna represent myself better in my apps then in a forum because, well u dont decide wheter i get into a college

Ok, whatever, all I said was be aware of how you present yourself, because you will be competing with other people for schools that have a very low acceptance rate. I never said that you weren't going to get into a college. You wanted feedback, so I gave you feedback. Don't get an attitude, if it isn't exactly what you want to hear. I'm done.

oh yeah if u havent noticed i love debating too. i was a county tournament finalist so ill sell that. IM JUST KIDDING WITH U, RELAX. u gave good feedback

u are right i should sell myself as much as i can and thats what i plan on doing, but still i dont like to stress over competition.

lol..I thought you were for real. I used to do debate back in middle school, but I had to quit it, because down here, if someone wants to be in debate, they have to take the class. I had no space in my schedule for it. :(
