In HS, I did a lot of research and competed at ISEF/Regeneron (did well). Next year, I’ll be a premed and was wondering if there are similar competitions in college that will help me with med school applications. I plan to continue doing research since I enjoy it, but how will I demonstrate that the research is significant?
So are you currently in college?
Sending research to significant publications/having big conferences where your work is presented values more in context of how real life work behaves. IMO showing significance this way values just as much, if not more than competitive research
By next year you mean you’ll be graduating college? or going to college (in 2020)?
I think that matters as well, since someone out of HS and pursuing/attaining a higher degree is expected to ‘up the ante’ a bit.
PM for any further queries. Hope this helps!
I’m entering college next year (currently a HS senior).
okay… so class of '23 premed… from where? The school and its resources matter for a kickstart.
I’m not sure which school yet. I applied RD to Michigan, Wisconsin, Boulder, some Ivies, MIT, and Stanford.
My god…
You dont need to worry about that from now on itself. After choosing the college you go to, check the opps out there, and then move forward. You cant possibly do anything now onwards.
Check out HOSA (more like a SciOly of pre-med); competition in college is different, and it may mean different things. Really, where research competitiveness gets in play is in securing positions. What happens after that is up to you. There are thousands of conferences, grants, and publications to submit to, so there is no real “ISEF of college”. ISEF was a fun time, but it isn’t anything like what having an actual professional or research career is like. What matters is your contributions to literature and your university.
