I’ve been doing Weightlifting since Sophomore year, and I absolutely love it!
I compete through my school, and I am the best in my weight class. (and would have won states but I injured my back)
I would love to continue with competitions, but I feel like no colleges have an actual team.
Please let me know if you have any insight. Thanks.
I’m not sure if colleges offer competitive weightlifting, but you could join a CrossFit gym, called a Box, and CrossFit offers periodic competitions. However, CrossFit is more than just weightlifting, but I won’t detail here for brevity.
@sushiritto Yeah I have heard of CrossFit, but I’m more into max lifting. Do you think any colleges have clubs for lifting, and if not, do you think I would be able to start one that competes?
Again, I don’t want to be one of “those people” but we do max out on Olympic and non-Olympic lifts at CF, like snatches, deadlifts, cleans, jerks, etc.
I’m sure there are weightlifting clubs at some colleges, especially the D1 football schools that have built extraordinary recreation centers. And you could certainly start one, if not. Olympic weightlifting involves barbells and plates and then dropping them, hard, so not every college will have this type of facility.
I just haven’t heard of any competitions between schools, but within a school, I imagine, yes.
BTW, my introduction to weightlifting was an elective course at college A VERY LONG time ago. :))
My D’s Crossfit gym has a dedicated lifting classes in addition to Crossfit classes. They had quite a few college students at her gym. The coach is a state winning lifter.
lol thank you so much… yeah I know CrossFit involves maxing out but I dont have enough endurance to do things like running and biking. I’ll probably just start an Olympic Lifting club or just workout on my own. Thanks again! @sushiritto
Thanks for your reply! Where is that located? @deb922
