College credit for AS-Level examinations, and CWRU Math diagnostic exam.

First of all, I know almost nothing about college credit and how it works, so please be as specific as possible in your answers. I understand that CWRU gives credit for A-Level examinations, however I will be graduating with AS-Level certificates only, which technically means my A-Level courses are incomplete (A-Level exams are taken in the 13th year of education, which I will not be completing). Calculus was, however, included within my AS-Level Mathematics course, so will this count towards any credit, because if the diagnostic exam tests calculus readiness, then shouldn’t I be “ready” for calculus, since I have already taken it? If it does count for credit, then will I have to inform the university that I took calculus, or will they know themselves?

As for the math diagnostic, what kind of topics exactly would they test? Is it difficult, and does it require lots of studying?

As per their website only A Level exams are given credit. That too they are not specific about the credit offered to A levels where are as for AP and IB it is very clear please visit the link below

One quick question - Did you get admission only on the basis of AS Level? If yes how many AS level did you complete? Additionally I am assuming you must have completed IGCSE, if so how many subjects did you complete for IGCSE? Did you get any scholarship? Are you an international Student?

My Son has completed 3 A levels (Math, Phy and Chem) and two AS Levels (English and Thinking skills) and awarded AICE diploma with distinction and he has acquired the highest possible grades in all the subjects except one. He will be majoring in Engineering Physics.

We too are waiting to see how many credits he will get . I am assuming he should at least get 18 Credits. Lots of other universities in Florida offer one year of 32 credits. Even University of Washington offers a year worth of credit for AS/ A Level Combination

As for the diagnostic test following link will help you

I do not think you will get credit for AS level examinations but you could still call them and ask.

We will know by June as to how many credits he will get.

Look at the section called “Selecting a Math course”
http://www.case.edu/ugstudies/media/caseedu/undergraduate-studies/documents/FY-Guide-2015-2016.pdf

It has links to a site that will help you know what material you need to learn.

also if you have any questions contact the Math Department and ask your question.

If you don’t get credit for the exams you took, you can test out of calculus by taking a proficiency exam during orientation:

Unless you can complete multiple tests in one sitting, you probably won’t be able to test out of both MATH 121 and MATH 122. However, proficiency exams are offered every semester if you need to take more than one.
