College dorm rooms

So I live in long island and I'll be attending suny oswego this fall. I will be taking public transportation to get there when its time to move in to the dorms. I was wondering how a I suppose to carry all the stuff up to oswego on the amtrak and on the bus. Any suggestions would be great.

You can ship your stuff in advance. Check with the department of residences or whatever they call it at oswego. There’s probably a lot of info on the oswego website. But you should definitely be able to send things ahead of time.

Buy some space saver bags for your clothing/bedding. You can fit a ton of stuff in a large suitcase using them, and you can use them to ship in boxes. If you’re planning to go home in the fall, or even at Thanksgiving, bring only fall clothing and one warm jacket (windproof, preferably, as it’s always windy on the lake). Then do the clothing swap. Buy bulkier items locally - I know there’s a Walmart in Oswego and other stores that are accessible from the college.

Wow, that is a challenge! Definitely use those space saver bags, they are great, but can be heavy as well. Wonder if there is a shuttle from Amtrak? Once you are moved in you may want to think about getting one of those storage spaces for summer so you don’t have to go through this every spring and fall.

I know some stores offer a program where you select the items you want, they get them ready at the store nearest to your college and that way it’s less of a hassle… this would only work if you have a bus or something to get to that store to bring them back to the dorm.
