College Engineering vs. Trade School Engineering

the key word is

i am talking about people having their own business, like auto repair or something.
i am Chinese, and many of my relatives are technicians.

I think you mean self-employed but anyway this statement is still not accurate. While it may be possible for a self-employed technician to make this, it is still certainly not likely. Someone who owns a well established business is definitely an exception and I’m not sure they would fall under the category of technician. I think entrepreneur or business owner might be more like it. Nevertheless, implying that self employed technicians make this much is still not accurate. This is like saying that since Bill Gates is a college dropout and he is a billionaire, this means that all college dropouts will be billionaires. I’m sure somewhere out there someone trained as a technician who owns a business makes this but this is still extremely rare. There are people with zero education that are very wealthy because they own businesses. This doesn’t mean that all self-employed people even come close to making what the top 1% makes. Do your relatives who are technicians make 300,000 U.S. dollars a year? You are talking about U.S. dollars right?

I’m not trying to pick on you but your statement is still not accurate. Show me one reputable source that shows the salary statistics for technicians, self-employed or not, to be anywhere near as high as you claim. The fact is 99.9 % of technicians will not make this, self-employed or otherwise.
