College essay...should I?

So, this university I am applying to specifically states the limit of words for both required essays are 250 words. But, would it be damaging to my application if I exceeded the limit by , lets say, 70 words? Has anyone here exceeded the limit and gotten away with it? I know short essays require a lot of adroitness to be griping and effective, but sometimes you just inevitably more words to develop the argument. What if I sent a longer essay but made sure the other was within the limit?

Any comments are helpful.

PS. I know there was another thread concerning this issue, but I would still appreciate suggestions regarding my situation.

it's going to depend on the school and their systems. some online apps won't let you type after the set limit. I would recommend talking to someone from each school.
