Do most people not put a title for their Common App essay, or for any essay for that matter?

For any college essay, no, most people don’t. It counts against your word count, and always seemed really unnecessary to me. Plus, (I could be completely wrong, but I think that) there’s no way to centre the text or anything, so it would look kind of awkward on the page.

Dang. I liked wrapping up my essay in the bow of a nice title :(

Actually, when I read through example college common app essays, all of them were titled, so perhaps a title is ok.

Where do you put the title? To be frank, I’ve never heard of anyone in the past year or two putting a title on theirs when they’ve sent it in, unless they’ve submitted it for publication somewhere and have a title for that.

A title is certainly okay - I just meant that I don’t think people ever use them. There’s no rule that says you CAN’T use one, though I personally wouldn’t.
